Pulmonary Function Testing

Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) assess the functioning of the respiratory system, including lung capacity and airflow. These tests measure parameters such as lung volume, capacity, and the ability to exhale forcefully. PFTs aid in diagnosing respiratory conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis, helping healthcare professionals develop appropriate treatment plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

A PFT measures how much air your lungs can hold, how quickly you can move air in and out of your lungs, and how well your lungs put oxygen into and remove carbon dioxide from your blood.

The test requires your full effort in breathing into a mouthpiece. Our technicians will guide you through each step to ensure you perform the maneuvers correctly for accurate results.

You may be asked to avoid using certain inhalers or medications before the test. It's also recommended to avoid heavy meals and smoking prior to your appointment.
